I am continually inspired by Ama K. Abebrese.
She is an award winning actress and producer based in Accra and London.
For over two decades she has worked both in front and behind the camera, mostly in the U.K. and Ghana. As an accomplishment actor, she won ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ at the 2011 African Movie Academy Awards for her role in ‘Sinking Sands’. She co starred in Netflix first original film ‘Beasts of No Nation’ with Idris Elba.
She starred in ‘Azali’ Ghana’s first film selection for the Oscars.
She was producer and narrator of the 2018 Blitz Bazawule film ‘The Burial of Kojo’, which was Ghana’s first film to be submitted to the Golden Globes.
She recently was the local Ghana producer for an untitled narrative feature film based on the artwork BLKNWS with Participant and A24.
She is a woman whose work has pioneered boradcasting, film and TV production and storytelling.
Her career has been one of many firsts and this continues to be the case. From starring in ‘Azali’ which as aforementioned is Ghana’s first film selection for the Oscars to the same with Blitz Bazawule’s ‘The Burial of Kojo’ and the Golden Globes. From interviewing George Lucas and producing productions for Wizkid, Ama has done it all.
I have had the pleasure of styling her for film premieres internationally. Her ability to take on the character of an outfit but still make it your own is innate. The stunning actress wears the likes of Ghanaian designer Dr Clement Asemnyra just as well she might wear a western fashion house.
Hers is a willingness to transform into the characters she plays. The mix of her earnestness, vision, achievements, personality, faith and an intentional way with reference to the choice of work that she takes on opens my mind to new possibilities. She inspires my creativity and is a muse to me. Her vision and ‘x factor’ causes me to want to create and birth the new. What and who is inspiring you presently? Do you have a muse or are you a muse?
