Interview | Gee Beller of Mr Guild

MrGuild is a menswear brand in Bromley that creates suits made in Turkey with focus on cut, fabric and colour.

I was honoured to speak to founder Gee Beller on the brand and much more. Read on for the interview.

1. You have built up a respectable menswear brand. Tell me about you. Your background and profile.

I am 31 years old, from Bromley and was previously up until a year ago a qualified electrician.

2. How did you start this brand?

It was when I was on vacation in Turkey last Summer that a taxi I was in drove past a wholesale retail park. I asked the taxi driver to stop and I went in and bought a few items of clothing and then mixed combinations to create my own style. My friends back home loved what I had styled and asked me to create similar looks for them and MrGuild was born.

3. What makes the brand stand out from the rest?

MrGuild stands out from my competitors because the shape of the suit is a slim fit cut which makes it look like it’s tailored for that individual,  creating the made to measure look. The design and texture is always different as well as the colour. The other finishing touches such as the accessories we add which are the tie/bow tie, pocket chief and the brooches and chains.

4. Your collection features a range of two and three piece suits. Who is the man that you design for. What type of man wears your brand?

I design for the stylish gent of today age ranging from 20’s-40’s. The type of man wearing my brand wants to look dapper and stand out. I find that when I dress a guy that does not have much confidence in his appearance, him wearing one of my outfits, gives him that.

5. What inspires the colors that you choose? You have a wide range. Tell me about this.

Inspiration for the colours I chose, I go by the Season. The colder seasons I tend to go for the dark browns, burgundy and warmer months I introduce the vibrant selection.

6. Who are your ideal celebrity clients that you would like to see in your brand.

Would have to be Alan Sugar and Princes Harry and William.

7. What is currently inspiring you. People, things, places.

Inspiring me currently, street fashion in European Countries, how the economy is changing for manufacturers to produce clothing to a high quality.

8. You manufacture your clothing in Turkey where you are from. Tell me about this.

I go to Turkey to buy my clothing there as after doing vast research into the manufacturing business, this was the best for choice for me. Being Turkish too is a huge asset where I can communicate with the suppliers.

9. What is next for you?

The next step for me is bring out a more causal and smart range for MrGuild. This will include ripped jeans, tops, blazers and also a range of Chelsea boots.

Next year I am looking to launch MrsGuild which will be a clothing range for the elegant woman of today. This will create the Mr & Mrs Guild look.

For me personally, I am currently doing interviews about being an Entrepreneurial Business Man and also wanting to inspire the younger generation that they can achieve any goal they set out for as I have done that.

10. Finish the sentence, style is...

Fashion is what you wear, style is what you create.
